- This paper is based on the following requirement -
- Read this paper carefully and write a detailed appraisal of the design and analysis of the experiment(s) using the following as a guide:
- (i) What hypothesis is being tested? Is the hypothesis explicitly stated or is it implied?
- (ii) What type of design is used for the treatments?
- What are the treatments?
- Are they clearly stated?
- Is there one (or more) appropriate control treatments?
- Are there any factors confounded in the treatments?
- (iii) Is the sample appropriate, representative and uniform as far as you can tell?
- Is it randomly selected from the population? If not is that a serious limitation?
- Are the treatments allocated to the experimental units randomly?
- Is blocking used and is it appropriate?
- Is the physical layout clear (give a diagram if appropriate)?
- Does the paper confine discussion of results to the appropriate population (implied by the choice of sample if not explicitly stated)?
- (iv) Are the method(s) of treatment application/implementation appropriate and do they avoid bias?
- (v) Are the methods for measuring responses appropriate?
- (vi) Is the presentation of the data and outcome of statistical analysis appropriate?
- Is the statistical analysis adequately described?
- Is it valid and appropriate?
- Give skeleton analysis table(s) that you think were used.
- Are there sufficient residual DF?
- (vii) Does the interpretation clearly relate to the outcome of the statistical analysis?
- (vii) Could you repeat this experiment from the information given?
- If not what information is missing?
