Earthquakes have now become a worldwide problem wherein the countries are trying to seek opinions to curb this problem by taking required action. The earthquakes are not just restricted to one part of the globe but all are equally at risk. After the two greatest earthquakes in US history and in Japan, has opened the eyes of many and has called for taking serious actions to bring this issue to a standstill. With the advancement in science and technology, we are now in a position to answer some of the most difficult questions as when the earthquake will occur, where it will occur and at what magnitude. Due to this advancement various science and engineering tools can be used to reduce the effects of earthquake.
It is well said “earthquakes do not kill people, buildings do”. The objective of our study is development of earthquake suspension to protect homes, buildings and bridges from any kind of damage during the event of earthquake. An earthquake can hamper the foundation of any building in the form of crack that develop on the walls or spilt at the time of shaking. This may result in huge economic loss and damage to human life and can also take toll on one’s life. The two greatest earthquakes in USA, in Japan and regions near the sea have taught hard lessons to people all around the globe that no region is safe and all are prone to earthquake. Special actions should be taken to protect oneself from any kind of damage. Architects and engineers should take special action to protect world from hazards of earthquake. Those buildings are worst hit that have poor building standards and deficient in earthquake resistant design. The motive of this paper is to protect building from structural damage and protect life by ensuring that the building does not crumple and minimize loss of life.
The company in study is construction based known as Bouygues Company. The company stands at the 2nd position in UK in terms of construction. The overall protection from earthquake can be maintained if the building, bridges etc are well protected, designed as per earthquake suspension needs and the company in study bears that character. So, the construction companies should set the standards of the buildings high so that they don’t damage with a shake of an earthquake. It lays down special attention for the architects to lay good foundation that prevents building from shaking. The product here is earthquake resistant which is supposed to be installed in all the buildings, bridges to prevent any damage caused due to the harm from the earthquake. In this paper, the research constructed highlights the following points:
a. damages, destruction caused by the earthquake
b. how can this be prevented
c. Making of earthquake suspension – proof building
d. How good are earthquake suspension to prevent the above
These are some of the questions will be addressed in this paper. The paper highlights the need of the earthquake suspension and how have they attained success.
