Description

There is no denying of the fact that tobacco exacerbates poverty and this statement is well cited by WHO in one of the articles “Why is tobacco a public health priority” in 2004. The research paper clearly defines the view that there is a direct relationship between tobacco and households. A study conducted on low income countries puts forward the point that the poorest of the households spends 10% of their income on tobacco consumption even when they don’t have much for household consumption. As a result, the households do not get much to spend on their routine needs such as purchase of food products, education as well as on the healthcare. WHO makes a way here by proving the fact that tobacco negatively affects the lives of the poor as well as disturbs the economic growth of the nation. Nations with increasing trend of tobacco consumption have witnessed increased rate of malnutrition, premature deaths and increased rate of health care costs. Furthermore, it contributes to rising rate of illiteracy and thereby resulting in downward trend in economic growth of the nation.
